“A guarded heart is a safer heart,
But a guarded heart is a dull heart.”
The North east would never be able to feel
the warm winds of the South west
if a thick glass wall stood erect against it.
The cold skin would never be able
to reveal in the heat of the sun if one
remained in the comfort of a home.
A hatchling would never be able
to soar and touch the horizon
if it never took its first flight.
And a heart would never be able to learn
from the ache and scar of a burn
if it didn’t wander to close to the flame.
A guarded heart is a safer heart,
But a safer heart is a lonely heart.
